Panacur Dosing Charts for Dogs, Cats, Puppies and Kittens

The active ingredient in Panacur is fenbendazole. Panacur for dogs can be used as a routine wormer for roundworm and tapeworm as can Panacur for Cats. Panacur for dogs can also be used for Filaroides Osleri Lungworm and Giardia in dogs at a special dosing rate.

Panacur for puppies is best used as a liquid or paste for accurate dosing and ease of use, although granules may be used.

Panacur Liquid for Dogs, Cats, Puppies and Kittens

Panacur liquid is a 10% oral liquid suspension available as a 100ml bottle for use in adult dogs and cats as well as puppies and kittens.

• Adult dogs and cats should be dosed at 1ml per 1kg bodyweight of dog or cat for routine treatment
• Puppies and Kittens under 6 months old should be treated at a rate of 0.5ml per 1 kg bodyweight of puppy or kitten each day for 3 consecutive days at 2, 5, 8 and 12 weeks of age.
• Pregnant Dogs should be treated at a rate of 1ml per 4kg bodyweight of the whelping bitch from day 40 of pregnancy to 2 days post whelping.
• Pregnant Cats should be treated as a single dose at the usual routine worming dose of 1ml per 1kg bodyweight of cat.
• Giardia and severe clinical worm infestations should be treated at 1ml per 2kg bodyweight of dog or cat for 3 consecutive days.
• Lungworm in dogs can be treated at a dose of 1ml per 2kg bodyweight for 7 consecutive days
• Lungworm in cats can be treated at a dose rate of 1ml per 2kg for 3 consecutive days. 

Panacur Paste for Smaller Dogs, Cats, Puppies and Kittens

Panacur wormer paste can also be used on small adult dogs and kittens and is useful for adult cats who refuse tablets as a fenbendazole paste with 18 syringe graduations.

• Adult dogs and cats should have a syringe graduation per 0.5kg bodyweight. One syringe will treat up to 9kg bodyweight and has 18 syringe graduations.
• Puppies and kittens the dose is 1 syringe graduation per kg bodyweight each day for 3 consecutive days. Puppies and kittens should be treated at 2, 5, 8 and 12 weeks of age.
• Each puppy paste syringe will treat 6 kg bodyweight for 3 consecutive days. 

Panacur Granules for Dogs, Cats, Puppies and Kittens

Panacur Granules are a 22% ww treatment for roundworm and tapeworm in adult cats and dogs as well as puppies and kittens.

• Adult dogs and cats should be treated with either Panacur Worming Granules 1g sachet which treats up to 2kg bodyweight, Panacur Worming Granules 1.8 sachet  which treats 4kg bodyweight or a Panacur Worming Granules 4.5g sachet treating 10kg bodyweight.
• Pregnant Dogs, Puppies and Kittens the dose can be calculated for pregnant dogs as well as for puppies or kittens under 6 months, using liquid or paste for easier dose calculation and worming is advised, but more information on the use of worming granules below.

Routine treatment of adult dogs and cats

Administer 100mg fenbendazole per 1 kg (2.2 lbs) bodyweight as a single dose.

Practical dosage recommendations:

Panacur Wormer 1 g sachet /dose	Treats 2kg (4.4lb) bodyweight as a single dose (1.1 – 2.2kg)
Panacur Wormer 1.8 g sachet / dose	Treats 4kg (8.8lb) bodyweight as a single dose (2.2 – 4.4kg)
Panacur Wormer 4.5 g sachet /dose	Treats 10kg (22lb) bodyweight as a single dose (5 – 10kg)

For dogs weighing over 10 kg (22 lbs), additional sachets are required according to the additional bodyweight.

Assess bodyweight as accurately as possible and then administer one or a combination of the above sachets, which most closely doses this bodyweight. The dose should be administered by mixing it into the feed.

e.g.	For a 9kg dog = 2kg dose (1g sachet) + 4kg dose (1.8g sachet) + 4kg dose (1.8g sachet).
i.e.	one × 1gram sachet + two × 1.8gm sachets (10kg dose)
or	one × 4.5gram sachet (10kg dose)

Treatment should be repeated when natural re-infection with parasitic worms occurs. Routine treatment of adult animals with minimal exposure to infection is advisable 2 to 4 times per year. More frequent treatment, at 6 to 8 weekly intervals, is advisable for dogs in kennels.

Weaned puppies and kittens under six months of age

Administer 50mg fenbendazole per 1 kg (2.2 lbs) bodyweight daily for 3 consecutive days.

Practical dosage recommendations:

Panacur Wormer 1 g sachet /dose	Treats 4kg (8.8lb) bodyweight (minimum weight 2.2kg) dosed daily for three consecutive days (2.2 – 4.4kg)
Panacur Wormer 1.8 g sachet / dose	Treats 8kg (17.6lb) bodyweight dosed daily for three consecutive days (4.5– 8kg)
Panacur Wormer 4.5 g sachet /dose	Treats 20kg (44lb) bodyweight dosed daily for three consecutive days (10– 20kg)

For dogs/puppies weighing over 20 kg (44 lbs), additional sachets are required according to the additional bodyweight.

Assess bodyweight as accurately as possible and then administer one or a combination of the above sachets, which most closely doses this bodyweight. The dose should be administered by mixing into the feed.

N.B. Smaller or unweaned puppies and kittens should be treated with Panacur 2.5% or 10% Liquid or Panacur Paste.

e.g.	For a 9kg dog = 4kg dose (1g sachet) + 8kg dose (1.8g sachet) daily for 3 consecutive days.
i.e.	one × 1gram sachet + one × 1.8gm sachets. (12kg) dose daily for 3 days
or	three × 1gram sachet (12kg dose) daily for 3 days

Puppies should be treated at 2 weeks of age, 5 weeks of age and again before leaving the breeder's premises. Treatment may also be required at 8 and 12 weeks of age. Thereafter, frequency of treatment can be reduced unless the pups remain in kennels where reinfestation occurs more readily.

Pregnant Dogs

Administer 25mg fenbendazole per 1kg (2.2lbs) bodyweight daily from day 40 of pregnancy continuously to 2 days post-whelping (approximately 25 days).

Practical dosage recommendations:

Panacur Wormer 1 g sachet /dose	Treats 8kg (17.6lb) bodyweight dosed daily for approx. 25 days
Panacur Wormer 1.8 g sachet / dose	Treats 16kg (35.2lb) bodyweight dosed daily for approx. 25 days
Panacur Wormer 4.5 g sachet /dose	Treats 40kg (88lb) bodyweight dosed daily for approx. 25 days

For bitches weighing over 40 kg, additional sachets are required according to the additional bodyweight.

As this treatment of pregnant bitches is 98% effective, puppies from these bitches should themselves be treated with a 3-day course at 2 and 5 weeks of age with Panacur 2.5% or 10% Liquid or Panacur Paste. Treat the bitch at the same time at the routine adult dose rate (i.e. 100mg/kg as a single dose).

Pregnant Cats

Pregnant queens can be safely treated with Panacur Granules but only require a single treatment at the routine adult dose rate, as there is no pre-natal transfer of worm larvae in the queen. Administer 100mg fenbendazole per 1kg (2.2lb) bodyweight as a single dose.

Increased dosing for specific infections

For the treatment of clinical worm infestations in adult dogs and cats or Giardia spp. infections in dogs, administer 50mg fenbendazole per 1kg (2.2lbs) bodyweight daily for 3 consecutive days.

For control of lungworm Oslerus (Filaroides) osleri in dogs administer 50mg fenbendazole per 1kg (2.2lbs) bodyweight, daily for 7 consecutive days. A repeated course of treatment may be required in some cases.

For the control of lungworm Aelurostrongylus abstrusus in cats administer 50mg fenbendazole per 1kg (2.2lbs) bodyweight daily for 3 consecutive days.
